Every month, a different excuse to bring strangers together.

Welcome to The English Living Room, Socialoftas's new monthly gathering for people whose lives happen, at least partly, in English.

Every month, we come up with a slightly ridiculous reason to get people into the same room. One month we might celebrate terrible musical taste. Another, questionable life decisions. Perhaps we'll invite you to bring something nobody in their right mind would want.

We haven't figured it all out yet. Frankly, that would ruin the fun. What we do know is that there'll be people, tea, conversations, and absolutely no attempt to turn your Sunday afternoon into a personal development seminar.

English is the house language. Whether it's your first, second, third or seventh language, nobody gives a damn.

And now, for our first edition.

Let's face it. Your friends are tired of hearing about your fucking hobby. Your partner has stopped asking questions. Your colleagues have learned not to bring it up. Your family has been pretending to be interested since 2019.

And yet, you keep going.

Collecting things nobody needs. Researching subjects nobody asked about. Spending ridiculous amounts of money on equipment for something you're not particularly good at.

Wonderful.

We want you in our living room.

For our first edition, we're gathering people with unreasonable passions, questionable obsessions, unfinished projects, and an alarming amount of enthusiasm for things that contribute absolutely nothing to society.

Obsessed with Japanese cinema? Excellent.

Collecting Soviet postcards? Concerning, but welcome.

Spent €800 on photography equipment to take pictures of your cat? We should probably talk.

Bring something you've made. Something you're working on. Something you've collected. Or just bring yourself and your deeply unnecessary knowledge.

You might finally meet someone who gives a shit.

Or discover an entirely new obsession to waste your money on.

No TED Talks. No networking pitches. No inspirational bullshit.

And if anyone asks how you're planning to monetise your passion, we'll politely ask them to leave.

For once, you're allowed to love something without turning it into a business.

You don't have to present anything. You don't even have to have a hobby. Come along and enjoy other people's questionable enthusiasm.
