Based in London, the duo Yawning Portal creates otherworldly ambient blends, composed of delicate synthesizers, vocal samples, field recordings, and intricate sound design. Their music sits at a euphoric point on the continuum between hyperpop and deconstructed club music. The undefinable project, led by Jessica Walker and Joseph Ware, describes itself as “an opening to other worlds, transformation, prayer.”
Yawning Portal released their debut EP “Heart & Earth” on November 6th, 2020, via Vegyn’s PLZ Make It Ruins label, and has since released singles on Odyxxey, Slagwerk, Club Paradiso, and 29 Speedway, collaborating with artists such as Arca, Oli XL, Overmono, and 100 gecs. Their track “Cut to the Feeling” was also featured in Kanye West’s YEEZY SEASON 9 presentation.
Their debut album “Anywhere” was released in November 2025 on Stockholm label YEAR0001. Intended as a continuous listening experience, “Anywhere” reflects the feeling of disconnectedness in a hyperconnected world, where being somewhere simultaneously means being everywhere and nowhere.
Music that hovers… from London to the world. Yawning Portal’s pop sensibility breathes life into ambient whirlpools and found sounds; the result might feel like a driver struggling to stay awake on an endless open road.
