Wooden Spoon Carving - Knocktall Afternoon Session
Friday 21. August at 13:00 - 16:00
Knocktall Woodland Creation Site - Near Borgue
All tickets have been sold out
Have you ever wanted to carve your own wooden spoon? Join us for a relaxed and fun session, led by Rachel Ashcroft of 'Woman of the Woods', and learn how to make a large cooking spoon from locally sourced, seasoned cherry wood and various hand tools.
This is different to green wood working - with no axes or knives involved. Instead this session lets you work 'with' the wood as it is held in a vice.
Firstly we'll learn the meditative process of carving the bowl of the spoon with different carving gouges, take a short break and then work away at the rest of the wood with spoke shaves. We will then be sanding and oiling your own spoon which can be enjoyed for years to come!
The whole process will be overseen by Rachel of https://www.womanofthewoods.org/.
Places are limited to 5 places per session, to ensure enough equipment, and to let everyone leave with their own spoon.
The event is held at Knocktall Woodland creation site, between Borgue and Kirkcudbright, near Solway View Campsite. Vehicular/Cycle/Pedestrian access through the gateway at https://what3words.com/note.settle.decorator.
Please dress for the weather, wear appropriate stout footwear. We will be able to provide hot drinks upon arrival. Please note: there are no formal toilets on site.
This event is led by Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands, and is made possible thanks to the support from Foresight Group and EJD Forestry.
