Wonder of Willow ('Wow')

Online

Ok, so you can tell its a willow...but what type of Willow is it, and so what?!

Ian Murgatroyd has enjoyed a wide and varied career in the Forestry sector - including taking a look at Willow species in the UK, with a focus on varieties found in Dumfries & Galloway.

The common thought process might be 'that's a willow...that'll do...', but in this online session, Ian will lift the lid on willow identification and why this is important. Focussing on three common Willow species, this is a chance to broaden your willow knowledge.

The event will consist primarily of a presentation from Ian, but will be interspersed with short videos captured in August 2026 when Ian was trying to share his knowledge with the DG Woodlands team.

This is the first of the 2026 Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands '(K)nowledge Knovember' events, and is made possible thanks to the support from a range of partners, including Scottish Forestry and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The event is delivered online through the Streamyard platform, with lots of opportunity for the audience to put questions to the speaker. Streamyard requires nothing to be downloaded onto your computer, we will send a joining link out to signed up attendees in the day before the event.

The event is hosted by Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands, a charity supporting trees, habitats and the people that depend upon them in the region. For more information, visit www.dgwoodlands.org.uk.
