Viirus GUEST: Body Talks

A dance theatre about growing up with a disability

Linnea Sundblom from The Åland Islands was 10 days old when she experienced cramps that led to one-sided paralysis. Body talks is a dance theatre about growing up with a disability. The piece is a mixture of dance, medical records and memories from a young girl’s diary. Body Talks was part of Linneas artistic thesis from The Theatre Academy in Helsinki and has since been performed around Finland and abroad.

Linnea’s thoughts about Body Talks:

“It wasn’t self-evident to me when I started my studies at the Theatre Academy that my thesis would be about my disability. I thought that my body is that it is, has been around for 30 years just being, so why would I need to expose it more than necessary?
But after meeting people with similar stories at multiple occasions I also wanted to tell my story, because if they inspired me then I might be able to inspire someone as well.”
