Urban Campfire: an Evening of Live Storytelling

Saturday 29. November at 20:00 - 22:00

Doors open at 19:30

Rocas café-théâtre / café-concert, Luxembourg

We are thrilled to welcome Australian storyteller Ben McGuire, who will be joined by local storytellers Ben McIlroy, Joana Costa and Ceren Tosun for a special night of long-form storytelling.

Flying in for this special event, Ben invites you to join him as we gather around the Urban Campfire for an evening of true stories, told live in Luxembourg.

The Headliner Story:

When Ben set out to swim the English Channel in 2006, he was embarking not just on an epic physical challenge, but also on a personal pilgrimage and a rite of passage.

He was swimming not only towards the shores of France but also towards an answer to the conundrum borne of the very different roles his father and grandfather had played in his life: What does it mean to be a man?

In this unique long-form storytelling show, Ben will tell us of his tussle with what Shakespeare called “the perilous narrow ocean”. His gripping story is a meditation on love and loss, grief and memory; part celebration of life`s wondrous absurdity, part homage to his life-long friend, the sea; and part devoted prayer to the healing art of immersing ourselves in saltwater.

About Ben McGuire:

A passionate believer in the ferocious power of story to connect us with each other and our enduring humanity, Ben McGuire is a lawyer, writer, storyteller, and film-maker.

He is based in Berlin, from where he continues to lose a decade-long war with German grammar, and is a regular storyteller at Berlin`s premier storytelling event, The Bear.
