Monday 12. May at 18:00 - 22:00
MAISON SHIFT – 1st Floor / Metal Stairs, Zürich
Tuft a mini rug or a fluffy wall decor! Tufting is originally a technique for making rugs. Using a tufting gun, yarn is shot through a canvas to create a 3D surface. You can create rugs, wall hangings, fashion, and design objects.
In this 4-hour workshop, you will learn how to stretch a canvas, how the different tufting guns work, and you will receive links to tufting websites, guides, and material sources. You will also make your own small tufting piece of approximately 35x35 cm. Finally, you will learn how to finish your tufting, and you can take it home with you that evening. We exclusively work with organic sheep wool, produced in a family-run wool mill in Graubünden.
The founder of Tufting Club, Talaya Schmid, lives as an independent queer-feminist textile and performance artist in Zurich. She studied at Goldsmiths University of London, was the publishing director and editor of the comic magazine Strapazin, and co-founded the film and art festival Porny Days in Zurich.
Bring along: It’s best to bring a sketch (35x35 cm) to have more time for tufting and detail work!
No prior knowledge required.
The workshop will be held in German and/or English.
