Excursion to the Musée de Cluny with Mikhail Maizuls

Saturday 15. November at 10:00 - 12:00

Musée de Cluny, Paris

How to Look at Medieval Art

The Cluny Museum is a place where architecture and exhibits blend harmoniously. Imagine walking through the centuries: Roman baths connected to a 15th-century abbot’s mansion create a space seemingly designed to tell the story of medieval art.

During the tour with Mikhail Maizul, you’ll learn about the history of the medieval cult of images — statues of the Virgin Mary with hidden secrets, “living” crucifixes, debates about the Trinity, headless saints and royal heads without bodies, pilgrimage badges, and altarpieces where figures have lost their faces. How did images “live,” how were they venerated, and why did people sometimes try to “kill” them?

When: November 15, 10:00 AM - 12:00 AM
Where: Musée de Cluny
The lecture will be in Russian.
