the Tori Horse Breeding Farm

In Estonia’s oldest horse breeding farm, founded in 1856, Tori Horse Breeding Farm continues to raise and breed Estonian and Tori horses to this day. The farm is also home to draught horses and ponies.

The breeding of the Tori horse began in 1892, when the stallion Hetman, a Norfolk Roadster cross born in 1886 in Poland, was brought to the farm. The first results were strong, large-bodied horses with powerful legs, free movement, and a lively character – warmblood horses admired by both farmers and noblemen (“Tori Horse Breeding I”, p. 45). Many of Hetman’s descendants won awards at international exhibitions. Hetman fathered 48 stallions and 37 mares for Tori Horse Breeding Farm, and many more of his offspring were found in local farms. His skeleton has been preserved and is now on display in the new exhibition “Tori Attic”.

The attic is a place where antiques, ancient stories, and history are kept. At the Tori Museum attic, however, dust has been swept away – everything old has been polished and proudly displayed to visitors. Yet the attic feeling remains – a place full of treasures and stories waiting to be discovered. Come and explore the new exhibition, filled with fascinating stories and horses!

Come and discover the historic Tori Horse Breeding Farm!
