đ⨠During the Tartu Illustration Festival day, you can also visit the wonderful TYPA printing and paper arts centre, located just next to Aparaaditehas. TYPAâs museum collection features an impressive array of vintage printing and bookbinding machines â the very same types once used to make many of our childhood books. A real treat for fans of both books and illustration!
đ° About TYPA:
TYPA is a printing and paper arts centre that hosts workshops, exhibitions, concerts, and collaborates with universities, artists, and printmaking enthusiasts. Under the TYPA Stationery brand, they produce unique recycled notebooks, albums, and book boxes. Their century-old machines are fully functional and are used both for custom orders and artistic print projects. Visitors can also explore the secrets of papermaking, the history of printing, and various fascinating machines connected to the production of paper and books.
During the tour you'll learn about the journey of paper from China to Estonia, the birth of printing in Europe, and see their wood and lead type collections. Youâll hear about different printing presses and bookbinding techniques, and get to try papermaking and printing yourself, while seeing several antique machines in action.
