TIF 25 - Riso & Folklore: Postcards from the Bog
Saturday 4. October at 12:00 - 15:00
Aparaaditehas, Tartu
đŠ Bogs are strange, wonderful places - where the ground breathes under your feet and stories linger beneath the surface. In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore these folkloric landscapes through risograph printing. Combining manual techniques with the well-known grainy visuals of riso, we'll create postcards featuring imagined creatures and plants that might inhabit these mythical wetlands.
đ© You'll get to experiment with analog textures and digital processes, leaving with a small edition of your own riso-printed postcards. We're keeping it loose and experimental; no prior experience needed, just a willingness to play with ideas. By the end, we assemble our creations into a collective "field guide" to this imaginary bog ecosystem.
đ§ The workshop is led by Regina VitĂĄnyi, who is known for her experimental approach as a graphic designer and printmaker. Through collaboration with creatives working with film, architecture and museology, she explores topics such as identity creation processes and contemporary folklore. Community building and "making things happen" is a central motivation of her practice, helping with the organisation of zine festivals, design-focused museum visits and discussions about the creative industry.
Having worked in Wroclaw, Tallinn, Berlin, Ljubljana and Budapest, Regina brings an international perspective to her work. After two years of teaching both international and local groups at Metropolitan University Budapest, she is now based in Tartu to continue her research as part of UT Folkloristics & Cultural Heritage Studies department. At any given moment in life, sheâs excited to talk about the bog.
đȘ¶ All materials are provided. Each participant will leave with an edition of 7 riso prints. The results of the workshop will be assembled into a collective "herbarium" later on.
