TIF 25 – Character Design Workshop with Liisi Grünberg

👾 What shapes a character? How do visual stories bring them to life?
In this workshop, animator and illustrator Liisi Grünberg shares her creative process and the ideas behind the colorful characters in her films and illustrations. Through her presentation and discussion, participants will explore how thoughts, experiences, and small details influence a character’s appearance and personality.
In the second half of the session, participants will get hands-on – drawing their own characters and sharing their stories.

🐙 Suitable for ages 15 and up – perfect for curious beginners as well as aspiring illustrators, animators, and storytellers. The workshop lasts about 1.5 hours and will be conducted in Estonian (English can be used as needed).

🤠 The workshop is led by Liisi Grünberg – a filmmaker whose passion for visual storytelling grew from a love of comics. Her work in illustration and animation often features quirky, expressive characters. Liisi's illustrations have appeared in publications such as Müürileht, Värske Rõhk, Hea Laps, Kuti, and Kus!.
Her 2023 animated short Miisufy has screened at festivals including Clermont-Ferrand and Sundance. Known for her strong character design and detailed drawing style, Liisi works on both personal and collaborative projects. Her characters come to life across media – in films, books, and illustrations – and in this workshop, she’ll talk about how she brings them into being.

📍The workshop takes place at the green oasis of Plantarium, a plant shop and café located adjacent to Aparaaditehas (Kastani 50).
