Why "13" ?
In the Tarot the "Death" card is represented by the number 13: this represents the feared end of a situation, but also physical death.
In Christianity, 13 is considered an unlucky number. The explanation is obvious: the Bible names twelve apostles, but at the last supper thirteen people sat at the table with Jesus, and of course the thirteenth person present was the traitor Judas Iscariot.
In 19th century France there was a profession called "Quatorzième" (the fourteenth). He was a professional host invited to social events when only thirteen guests were invited to sit at the table. The 14th 'guest' helped avoid any misfortune related to the unfortunate number of guests !
The term Triskaidekaphobia comes from the Greek and is formed by the union of the words treiskaídeka (thirteen) and fóbos (fear). This describes the superstitious and pathological anxiety that some people feel towards the number 13. Those affected avoid everything related to this number.
This is also why in some buildings there is no 13th floor or there is no 13th row in an airplane. There are also hotels and hospitals where no room is numbered 13... .
In reality the number 13 is always linked to transformation, rebirth and change, in fact 13 are the months of the Moon's revolution that complete an entire year.
Its meaning can be understood both in a positive and a negative sense: Thirteen is in fact a number called arrhythmic which, breaking the law of balance and continuity, helps to restore balance; moreover it is recurrent and with a positive meaning in many cultures such as the Viking, Teutonic, Chinese and Tibetan ones, in Jewish culture it even represents the age of transition from childhood to adolescence.
For this reason we considered the number thirteen such a powerful symbol for our performance which is strongly connected to legends and folklore.
