Theremin: Music Without Touch

Sunday 6. April at 19:00 - 21:00

Liberty: food, coffee & wine, Parede

The theremin is the very first electronic musical instrument in history, yet even after more than a hundred years, it still looks and sounds as if it came from the future. It is the only instrument played without physical contact – the musician controls the sound through hand movements in the air, creating mystical, floating melodies.

On this special evening, you won’t just attend a concert – you’ll experience a concert-lecture dedicated to the theremin. You’ll hear its live sound performed by Frankie / Selenesphere, a musician who has mastered the instrument for over a decade. He will guide you through its fascinating history, from Lev Theremin’s early experiments to its role in modern music. The program includes both classical pieces and contemporary compositions, ranging from Schubert to Periphery.

Frankie / Selenesphere discovered the theremin in 2011 and began learning this enigmatic instrument on his own. Later, he continued his studies at the Moscow Theremin School, founded by the inventor’s own family. Over time, his journey led him to participate in Theremin Family School events and to incorporate the theremin into his rock band, giving it a fresh, modern voice. Since the spring of 2022, he has been living in Portugal, continuing to share the magic of this unique instrument.
