THE WISHING TREE (NATVRIS KHE) 🇬🇪 Film Screening w/ English subs

FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi

Tengiz Abuladze | USSR (Georgia) | 1976 | Georgian with English subtitles

A landmark of Georgian cinema, Abuladze’s THE WISHING TREE is a beautifully tragic love story that's part folk tale, part philosophical parable.

Through the lives of villagers in a remote Georgian settlement, the film reflects on human cruelty, compassion, and the eternal struggle between spiritual purity and social conformity.

The story’s structure mirrors the cycle of the seasons, moving through birth, love, and tragedy. Every frame feels like an icon come to life, shot in warm, earthy tones and composed like poetry.

THE WISHING TREE is is the centerpiece of Abuladze’s celebrated trilogy on morality, and It remains one of the most visually profound films ever produced in the Soviet era.

Last week we presented the first part of the trilogy - THE PLEA (VEDREBA), this week it's THE WISHING TREE, and next week we will screen REPENTANCE (MONANIEBA).
