Towards the end of 2021, Sub_Bar introduced a new way of experiencing music: not through melody or lyrics, but through air pressure and low frequencies that move through the body. What began as a physical ritual in Berlin and Lisbon became an immersive show presented in 25 cities worldwide. Sub_Bar Show #1 marked that debut and was later nominated for the German music critics award (VUT Indie Award). Now, Sub_Bar Show #2 deepens this journey.
Rising Deaf talents trained alongside established artists at Sub_Bar Academy, have gone on to perform at major music stages, including ADE Festival in Amsterdam, Silent Green in Berlin, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Serralves.
Curated and shaped around the works and narratives of Grischa Lichtenberger (Raster, DE) and Portuguese deaf artist Iruenia, the second edition expands the tactile music language developed over the years within Sub_Bar and Sub_Bar Academy. The show blends sign language, subtitles, low-frequency compositions, and immersive sound visualizations into a 90-minute ritual for the body.
Sub_Bar Show #2 includes works for low frequencies from artists such as Daisuke Ishida, Doron Sadja, Akkamiau, Myles de Bastion, Byetone, Calvin Khan, Alexander Tillegreen, Felicity Mangan, Senaida, Jordan GCZ, Östrol, Sofia Balbontin, Filipe Baptista, Roberto Musci, Martine-Nicole Rojina and John Kameel Farah.
Led by some of the best artists worldwide, presented in various sign languages and translated into International Sign and subtitles, the show brings Deaf and hearing audiences into the same physical field.
