ABOUT THE FILM:

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW is one of cinema's most outrageous cult musicals. Fifty years after its release, its unforgettable songs, hilarious dialogue, extraordinary costumes and gloriously eccentric characters continue to attract audiences around the world. More than just a film, ROCKY HORROR has become a celebration of individuality, sexual freedom and the joy of being different.

When newly engaged sweethearts Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon) suffer a car breakdown, they seek help at a mysterious castle. Inside, they encounter Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a flamboyant scientist in fishnets and high heels, surrounded by bizarre guests and conducting some very unusual experiments. Before long, Brad and Janet find themselves caught up in a night of sex, science fiction, rock music and complete madness.

From The Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite to Science Fiction/Double Feature, ROCKY HORROR is packed with songs that generations of fans know by heart. Tim Curry's unforgettable performance as Frank-N-Furter has become one of cinema's great cult characters, while the film's corsets, stockings, makeup and extravagant costumes have inspired decades of Halloween outfits and midnight screenings.

When the film first appeared in 1975, it was a commercial disappointment. But everything changed when New York's Waverly Theatre began showing it at midnight in 1976. Audiences returned week after week, dressing as their favourite characters, singing along, shouting responses to the dialogue and acting out scenes in front of the screen. What began as an underground phenomenon became one of the most enduring audience-participation traditions in cinema history.

Come dressed for Halloween. Stay for the party. Let's do the Time Warp again.
