THE FALL

Tarsem Singh, 2006, USA, 1h59m, English audio with English subtitles

I originally programmed THE FALL on the rooftop in late August, but the weather had other plans and we were forced to relocate the screening downstairs to the Secret Cinema. While we were very happy to still be able to show it, this is a film I've chosen specifically for the open-air. Its enormous landscapes, saturated colours and extraordinary locations deserve the biggest screen and widest sky we can give them.

So I'm bringing it back for a second chance.

Set in a Los Angeles hospital in the 1920s, THE FALL follows an injured stuntman and a young girl who form an unlikely friendship. As he begins telling her an epic fantasy story, the line between imagination and reality slowly begins to blur, creating one of the most visually breathtaking films ever made.

Directed by Tarsem Singh over four years in more than 20 countries, THE FALL was created using extraordinary real-world locations, intricate costumes and astonishing cinematography rather than relying on CGI spectacle. Every frame feels handcrafted, and it remains one of the most visually distinctive films of the 2000s.

As part of our season celebrating the families we’re born into and the families we build, THE FALL is a beautiful reminder that the people who change our lives aren’t always the ones we’re related to. Sometimes a shared story, an unexpected friendship or a simple act of kindness can become just as meaningful.

Funny, moving and unlike almost anything else in cinema, THE FALL deserves to be seen properly on the big screen. This time, hopefully, under the stars.

WHAT TO WEAR

Tbilisi weather likes to keep us on our toes. Even after a hot day, it can cool down quickly once the sun goes down, and the rooftop breeze can be surprisingly fresh. We'd recommend bringing a jacket or jumper, just in case in the t mo drops or the breeze picks up.
