THE BLUE HOUR — With fashion and textile designer Lilla Wicki

Thursday 15. May at 18:00 - 21:30

MAISON SHIFT – 1st Floor / Metal Stairs, Zürich

Shibori Dyeing with Natural Indigo.
The Japanese Shibori dyeing art with indigo includes a wide range of techniques. In this workshop, we will experiment with fabric manipulations to create organic patterns and kaleidoscopic designs when dyeing with natural indigo.

Shibori is a Japanese manual dyeing technique that creates a variety of patterns on fabrics. In this workshop, we will explore the history of indigo dyeing and experiment with different fabric manipulations such as folding, clamping, binding, and stitching. This process creates organic patterns and kaleidoscopic designs on the fabric when dyeing with natural indigo. We will first experiment with small test pieces and then dye a cotton scarf using the desired technique.

All tools and materials for dyeing and experimenting will be provided. Please note that indigo stains! Dress accordingly.

Lilla Wicki is a fashion and textile designer with diverse interests and a broad working area. In her personal search for a more sustainable textile future, Lilla's design process is inspired by what already exists: artistic vintage materials that are lying dormant in archives! Lilla's professional path began at Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design in London with a diploma in Fashion Design Women's Wear, followed by a ten-year work stint in Paris and New York. Today, Lilla works as an independent designer in Zurich. Reflection, collaboration, and conscious creation are at the core of her practice.
