  • Want to feel more confident when communicating with other people?

  • Want to stop overthinking and learn to react more quickly?

  • Want to find a new group of people where it’s okay to be awkward and make mistakes?

  • Want to try acting, but worry that you won’t fit in because you have no previous experience?

  • Want to find out how it’s actually possible to create an entire show on the spot, improvising right in front of the audience?

  • Want to strengthen your abs through laughter?

If at least one of these questions made you nod or think about it, come join our beginner's improv course!

The beginner's improv course at Rahel Otsa Improkool introduces participants to the principles and techniques of improvisational theatre — how to co-create a story, characters, short and fun scenes, and a longer, connected performance. From September to May, the classes consist of games with simple rules that teach you to stay present, respond to what’s happening around you, and enjoy plenty of shared laughter and fun! Throughout the course, you’ll gradually learn to trust yourself and others more, use the improv skills you’ve learned, enjoy creating short scenes together, and by the end of the season, you’ll be ready to show your friends and family a little improvised performance!

Although the classes are spent playing fun theatre games, they also help develop useful life skills such as self-expression and confidence, listening, collaboration, and out-of-the-box thinking. You don’t have to be an actor, an extrovert, or the person known for always having the best one-liners to join. Everyone who wants to try something new is welcome on our beginner's course! No previous theatre experience is required. Many people join without knowing anyone in the group and without ever having tried improv before. During the season, new friendships often develop, and over time, new improv groups also grow out of the Improkool community!

After completing the course, you will:

  • listen better to both yourself and others

  • adapt more quickly to new situations

  • feel more comfortable taking responsibility and trusting other people’s ideas

  • have an overview of improvisational theatre as a genre

  • know how to create an improvised narrative theatre performance

  • have stronger abs and feel better thanks to all the laughter that comes with playing!

After completing the beginner's course, you're welcome to continue with our advanced courses in the following years, where you’ll learn different improv formats. In the 2026/2027 season, Improkool will have a total of four Estonian-language groups and three English-language groups.
