You Are Cordially Invited to Makara Shankranti Puja
Aum viśvāni deva savitar duritāni parāsuva |
yad bhadraṁ tanna ā suva ||
O Divine Savitar, remove all that is impure and harmful far away from us.
Bring to us all that is auspicious and virtuous.
The Vedas sing the glory of Sūrya and exhort all beings to worship the Sun, the source of life and energy. Sūrya is described as seated upon a lotus at the center of his cosmic realm, adorned with armlets and makara-shaped earrings, wearing a radiant crown, and holding the conch and the discus, his golden body shining with divine brilliance.
“O radiant Sun, rising in the sky,
please destroy the diseases dwelling in my heart
and those afflicting my outer body.”
“May the brilliantly shining Sun, the son of Aditi,
destroy both the inner and outer diseases of my body.”
Those who perform Sūrya Namaskāra daily do not suffer from poverty in life. A healthy body performs better, enjoys life more fully, and supports both earning and saving. Such a person is not afflicted by premature death or chronic illness. For improved health, one may drink water that has been kept in sunlight.
