STOP MAKING SENSE with Talking Heads - Music Film Fest
Friday 27. February at 19:00 - 20:30
FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi
Jonathan Demme | 1984 | USA | 88mins | English language with English subtitles
STOP MAKING SENSE is presented as part of the week-long Music Film Fest at FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi.
STOP MAKING SENSE documents Talking Heads at their creative peak. Filmed over three nights, the concert begins with David Byrne alone on stage with a guitar and a boombox. The band gradually assembles, song by song, until the stage becomes a fully realised performance machine.
Demme’s approach is radical in its simplicity. No backstage interviews, no dramatic cutaways, just performance. The camera moves with the band, not around them. The result is widely considered one of the greatest concert films ever made.
The influence of this film is enormous. Byrne’s oversized suit became iconic. The fusion of funk, art rock and choreography shaped how live music could be staged and filmed. On a cinema screen, the energy feels architectural. It is a reminder that a concert film can be pure cinema.
