Stinging Nettle Fibre Processing by Joseph Hallam
Stinging nettle has been used for thousands of years as a fibre plant for rope and textiles but has largely been forgotten in the modern world, maligned as a painful weed, rather than the useful and even medicinal plant it is. In this workshop, the participants are taught the steps for choosing, collecting and processing nettle fibre for use in cordage or textiles, its history and what can be learned from this ancient plant in the modern day. The participants would process the nettle and then make themselves a nettle cordage bracelet to take away with them along with the skills to process natural fibres for a number of different uses.
Duration: 2 hours.
The workshop is facilitated in English.
About the facilitator:
Joseph Hallam is a textile design Masters student at Aalto University and has been working with natural materials for many years. Joseph's main hobby is collecting hobbies and sharing the skills picked up along the way.
