Ancient Trees are Awesome!

Tuesday 24. November at 19:30 - 21:00 GMT

Online

Veteran trees are far more than old trees – they are thriving ecosystems. This online session will explore the fascinating world of veteran trees, revealing how their age, structure and decay create vital habitats for insects, birds, fungi and more. Join us to learn how these remarkable trees support biodiversity and play a crucial role in resilient woodland landscapes.

We are delighted to again host James from The Woodland Classroom (www.woodlandclassroom.com). James has given us Tree ID skills but this time he wants to tell us why older trees are not the same as their younger relations. We'll be looking at veteran trees and their value to wildlife, the woodland ecosystem, how they die slowly over many years and lots of interesting fun facts!

The event is delivered online through the Streamyard platform, with lots of opportunity for the audience to put questions to the speaker. Streamyard requires nothing to be downloaded onto your computer, we will send a joining link out to signed up attendees in the day before the event.

The event is hosted by Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands, a charity supporting trees, habitats and the people that depend upon them in the region. For more information, visit www.dgwoodlands.org.uk.
