Hirokazu Kore-eda is one of Japan's most acclaimed contemporary filmmakers. SHOPLIFTERS won the Palme d'Or, the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival, in the spring of 2018 and was Japan's official Academy Awards submission.

Osamu and his son are on one of their routine shoplifting trips when they happen to come across an abandoned young girl shivering in the cold. They take her in and welcome her into their family. When an unexpected incident reveals the family's secrets, their life together is put to the test.
