The worldwide short-film festival comes to Tbilisi for the first time.
From 22 to 27 August, shnit TBILISI 2026 takes over FOMO Open-Air Cinema for five nights of contemporary international short filmmaking on the Bazaari Orbeliani rooftop.
The program moves between competition films, comedy, romance, animation, documentary, social satire, experimentation, and films that resist easy classification. Some last only a few minutes. Others build complete worlds in under half an hour. Every night has been curated as its own screening experience, bringing together films from different countries, styles, and perspectives.
shnit is an established transnational festival connecting filmmakers and audiences across cities and continents. Its Tbilisi edition brings that global program to FOMO for the first time, with screenings after dark, drinks from the rooftop bar, and panoramic views across the old city.
FESTIVAL PROGRAM
OPENING NIGHT + PARTY
20:45 Saturday 22 August: Doors and opening party from 18:00
shnit TBILISI begins with a rooftop opening party with live music, drink specials and discount food options, followed by the festival’s first program of seven international short films.
The opening selection moves quickly between animation, comedy, social observation, historical drama, online culture, and stranger forms of human behaviour. It is designed as an introduction to the range of shnit’s programming rather than a single genre night.
Guests are encouraged to arrive from 18:00, order a drink, watch the sunset, and settle in before the screening begins at 21:00.
LOVE shnit - night 2
20:30 Sunday 23 August: Doors from 19:30
Eight films about attraction, intimacy, communication, fantasy, awkwardness, and the ways relationships begin to come apart.
LOVE shnit avoids conventional romantic packaging. Its films move across countries and forms, examining desire through misunderstanding, longing, memory, humour, and emotional distance.
HOT GREY - night 3
20:30 Tuesday 25 August: Doors from 19:30
Five longer short films connected by social tension, memory, changing communities, and people trying to make sense of the systems around them.
The program includes LIFT LADY, set around one of Tbilisi’s historic paid elevators, alongside films from Australia, Spain, France, and Ireland. Expect dark humour, environmental unease, family conflict, post-Soviet identity, and stories that do not fit comfortably inside one genre.
WORLDWIDE COMPETITION - night 4
20:30 Wednesday 26 August: Doors from 19:30
The festival’s central international competition program brings together eight films from Cambodia, Egypt, Ghana, Argentina, Russia, the United States, Australia, and Belgium.
The selection moves between fiction, documentary, satire, historical drama, digital culture, labour, isolation, and survival. This is the clearest expression of shnit’s global programming, with distinct filmmaking voices placed alongside one another in a single competition screening.
COMEDY shnit - CLOSING NIGHT
20:30 Thursday 27 August: Doors from 19:30
Eight films built around social embarrassment, domestic conflict, modern masculinity, housing pressure, ageing, filmmaking chaos, consumer culture, and a tapeworm with unusually good access to the opera world.
COMEDY shnit is broad in subject but precise in tone. Some films are dry. Some are absurd. Some become funny because everyone involved is taking the situation far too seriously.

ARRIVE EARLY
FOMO Open-Air Cinema opens one hour before each standard festival screening. On Opening Night, doors and the party begin at 18:00, three hours before the films. Guests are advised to arrive early to secure their seat and watch the sunset over historic Old Town.
LANGUAGE
Films are presented in their original audio with English subtitles where required.
WEATHER POLICY
FOMO Open-Air Cinema screenings take considerable time and preparation to organise, and we cannot control changing weather conditions.
If FOMO officially cancels a screening because of unsuitable weather, ticket holders will receive credit for one future regular FOMO Open-Air Cinema screening. The credit can be used for an eligible open-air film outside the shnit TBILISI 2026 program.
Tickets will not be refunded because of light rain, cooler temperatures, a weather forecast, or a guest’s decision not to attend unless FOMO officially cancels the event.
Guests should check the Instagram Stories on @fomo.cinema on the day of each screening for weather updates and any changes to the event.
FOOD AND DRINK POLICY
The rooftop bar serves beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, order a drink, and watch the sun set over Tbilisi before the program begins.
Food from the Bazari is allowed in the Open-Air Cinema. No alcohol from outside is allowed. FOMO will have partnerships with some of the Bazari food vendors offering special discounts to ticket holders.

FOMO Open-Air Cinema, Bazaari Orbeliani rooftop, Tbilisi. A five-minute walk from Liberty Square metro or 1 minute from Justice House. Take the stairs at the Atoneli St entrance to the terrace.
HOW TO FIND FOMO
Enter Bazaari Orbeliani via Atoneli Street above Carrefour and take the stairs on your left. Continue upstairs to the rooftop and follow the FOMO signage.

CLOSING TIME
Due to rooftop noise restrictions, all terrace events must conclude by 22:40 each evening.
