What ?
The Environmental Health Team is delighted to be back with our first food safety workshop of the year, supporting small food businesses in meeting their legal food safety obligations and preparing confidently for Environmental Health inspections.
This workshop will give attendees a clear overview of the key requirements and responsibilities for food businesses, including food handling, food hygiene, food preparation, physical conditions, food processes, staff training, and effective food safety management systems.
Participants will also receive hands-on support in completing their Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) pack. SFBB is a practical, easy-to-use food safety management system created by the UK Food Standards Agency specifically to help smaller businesses manage food safety successfully.
Why ?
All food business operators are legally required to have written procedures that set out how they keep the food they prepare and sell safe to eat. The Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) pack helps businesses meet this requirement. Failing to have a suitable food safety management system in place is an offence, and if an inspection finds that one is missing, it may result in legal action — including formal notices, enforced closure, or even prosecution.
Get ahead of the curve by ensuring you are fully prepared for inspection and demonstrating high standards of food safety to protect both your customers and your business.
Our comprehensive Safer Food, Better Business workshops will guide you through identifying areas for improvement and help you meet your legal responsibility to maintain a robust Food Safety Management System.
Who?
The workshops are designed for small catering businesses, including restaurants, cafés, takeaways, and mobile food units.
Where & When?
We will be running a series of workshops throughout the year, starting with our first session on Thursday 14th May at Knockaloe Classroom, Patrick. The venue is located just off Patrick Road, directly opposite the Centre for WW1 Internment. Depending on the direction you’re travelling from, the classroom is the turning either just before or just after the Centre, on the opposite side of the road.

The workshops are free to attend.
Spaces are limited, and to ensure we can accommodate as many businesses as possible, attendance is restricted to two people per business. If you feel you require more than two places, please get in touch — we can add additional attendees to a waiting list.
Previous training
Whilst not essential, it would be beneficial to have previously completed formal food hygiene training such as the CIEH Level 2 Food Safety in Catering course, offered here

Bring your own pack
To get the most out of the workshop, attendees are asked to bring along their own businesses SFBB pack. If you do not already have a pack they can be downloaded and printed from here
