Scything can offer a range of benefits - both to the site being cut, and the person doing the cutting!
Join us for a fun session, led by scything enthusiast and teacher Alex Rigg. We'll cover everything from an introduction to the scythe, scythe maintenance and sharpening, through to actually putting the scythes to use.
The event is held at Glaisters Bridge Community Woodland, near Corsock. This is a 5 Hectare site which has been leased to the community (through the Upper Urr Environment Trust charity) by owners Foresight Group. The site has hosted a range of tree planting and visitor improvements since the lease was signed in 2023.
The session runs from 10am to 3pm. The morning session mostly spent on theory, scythe maintenance and then after lunch the scything skills can be put to the test.
If you have any scything equipment, please do feel free to bring it along. We have some scythes that can be shared as required.
Please dress for the weather, wear appropriate stout footwear, and bring your own lunch. We will be able to provide hot drinks upon arrival. Please note: there are no formal toilets on site.
