When numbness comes, the light is what remains
Screening of the new film by Andrey Silvestrov
It's a very personal diary of peacetime life during wartime. The camera captures us going somewhere all the time, drinking wine, smiling at each other, reading the news on our phones. And somewhere very close by, unknown bombs, bullets, knives are killing people. On the way we meet people whose voices are heard off-screen. Their speech prefills the mute to give a word to the pain.
Andrey Silvestrov is a producer and artist — the director of the queer remake of the comedy Volga-Volga (2006), the anti-television satire The Ice Hole (2016), and the experimental autobiographical film Up, Down (2023). His films have been presented at film festivals in Venice, Berlin, Rotterdam, and elsewhere. Retrospectives and special screenings of his work have been held at leading museums around the world, including Tate Modern (London), Centre Pompidou (Paris), Museum Ludwig (Cologne), and Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid).
The screening and the following discussion will feature the personal participation of the film’s director Andrey Silvestrov and its composer Andrey Guryanov (Berlin).
Free admission, donations are welcome.
The film is shown in Russian with English subtitles.
