BUGONIA Film Screening (ENG subs)

FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi

Yorgos Lanthimos | 2025 | UK / Ireland / South Korea / USA | 118 minutes
Presented in the original English audio with English subtitles.

BUGONIA is screening at FOMO Secret Cinema as part of our weekly program of new films by major contemporary directors.

BUGONIA follows Teddy, a conspiracy obsessed beekeeper, and his cousin Don, who are convinced that a powerful pharmaceutical CEO, Michelle Fuller played by Emma Stone, is an alien “Andromedan” quietly preparing the destruction of Earth.

Lanthimos uses cramped rooms, flickering lights, and long, uncomfortable scenes to keep you close to the three central characters. The tone moves between bleak comedy, psychological horror, and sad, awkward family drama. Stone plays Michelle as a calm, unnerving corporate operator who might be a victim or might be much worse. Jesse Plemons gives Teddy a mix of childish certainty and real menace, while Don tries to hold the situation together as it begins to slip out of control.

If you like dark science fiction that stays focused on people rather than spectacle, BUGONIA is for you. It offers a sharp take on corporate power, online conspiracy culture, and the way fear can turn into violence. It is also a key chapter in the ongoing collaboration between Lanthimos and Emma Stone, pushing both into colder and more brutal territory than before.
