Online ticket sales has ended.

Blown Fuse Theatre are hosting a rehearsed reading of the first half of their brand new play, Release, conceived by Blown Fuse, written by Kate Austen with poetry by Sadie Davidson. Release has been supported by Arts Council England and began during their Metal Residency in March 2023.

Developed in response from workshops with women with lived experience of the criminal justice system (via Advance Charity), the show is set in a residential women’s prison in the UK. We follow our protagonist, Alice, as she encounters four other inmates on her first day in custody. Reflective of real-life stories from women with lived experience of HM Prisons, Release asks if the prison system is working for women through the lens of Alice in Wonderland.

Date: Thursday 7th March 2024

Time: 19:30

Venue: Metal Southend, Chalkwell Hall (SS0 8NB)

This will be a rehearsed reading, followed by a Q&A with the team. We're really keen to get some feedback from fellow creative friends before developing the rest of the play.

TRIGGER WARNING
The content of Release may be emotionally challenging and include sensitive content. There are themes of self harm, drug abuse, violence and use of swears and curses which may be harmful to some viewers.
