A concert ranging from deeply the introspective to the fiery improvisations of rhythm and melody .
INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC originates from the ancient temple music of India , it is highly improvised, connecting with the divine moment. Raags are musical concepts based around the emotions , these will be played on the deeply healing low pitched flute know as BANSURI . Indian rhythmic cycles known as Taals with be played on the hypnotic and incredibly expressive percussion instrument called TABLA.
Jason Kalidas studied Hindustani classical music under his gurus in the last 26 years.
He began on Tabla and studied with Ishwal Lal Mishra in Varanasi. Going on to intense study in Raag and Bansuri. Jason learned Raag music from Dr Shanish Kumar ( Bansuri ) and Manoj Dubey (vocal - senior disciple of Pandit Chanu Lal Mishra ) in Varanasi. He also studied with Pandit Rajendra Prasanna in his home in Delhi. Jason feels passionate about the spiritual root of Indian classical music and its healing power to awaken the emotions with `Raasas’ (essence of feeling ) . His Bansuri playing is known for its depth of feeling and rhythmic clarity after his many years of learning Tabla. As well as concert recitals Jasons holds sacred music events with Bansuri and live Tampuras using Raags in a ceremonial atmosphere. He is currently building a sanctuary for music, healing and meditation in the mountains of North Portugal. He has performed Indian classical and fusion music all over the West and India in many world-class venues and events including, Darbar Festival, The Place, London, , Sadlers Wells London, The UN headquarters NYC, Macba, Barcelona, and many more.
Francisco Cabral Percussionist, developed the art of percussion instruments of classical music from northern India, the Tabla and the Pakhawaj. He accompanies numerous musicians in concerts of Indian classical music and dance and in various fusion projects. Francisco works with music to contribute to a growing appreciation of interculturality and is also dedicated to bridging science and art, as a musician and astrophysicist.
