Press Photography Workshop: the Rights and Boundaries of Photographers
Thursday 23. April at 18:00 - 20:00
Jacoby Casual Resto, Tallinn
The Estonian Association of Press Photographers invites press photographers, students and all those interested in visual media to participate in a workshop on April 23 at 6 pm, where attorney-at-law Karmen Turk will discuss the most important legal issues related to the work of a photographer.
A press photographer often operates on the border between public interest and privacy protection – in situations where decisions need to be made quickly, but the consequences of decisions can be very weighty legally. In the workshop, we focus on practical knowledge that will help you better understand your rights and act more confidently in complex situations.
Main topics:
Photographer's copyright – who owns the photo and which rights always remain with the author
Photo usage and contracts – what an employer can actually do with your images
Taking and publishing photos of people – public interest vs. protection of privacy
Working at the scene of a crime – relations with the police and rights in public space
Conflict situations in practice – image deletion requirements, disputes and risk points
New challenges – drones, data protection and the changing mediasphere
The workshop offers both a clear legal framework and practical examples, helping to better understand where the boundaries are and how to apply them in your work.
Karmen Turk (mag iur) is an attorney-at-law and partner at the law firm Triniti, specializing in artificial intelligence regulations, human rights (mainly freedom of expression and privacy), intellectual property and media law in Estonia and elsewhere.
