Our Woodlands as Inspiration...but when?

Tuesday 11. November at 19:30 - 21:00 BST

Online

How have the Trees and Woodlands of Dumfries & Galloway inspired authors and artists - and how to they inspire today?

This event looks back at how the historic woodland patterns of our region have been recorded in the works of S.R.Crockett, then considering how Dumfries & Galloway's woodlands can inspire creative output today.

The first speaker is Cally Wight, curator of the S.R. Crockett Online Museum — a platform that brings Galloway’s forgotten Bestseller, Samuel Rutherford Crockett, into fresh focus. Through the Museum and its supporting charity, Cally works to reconnect people with Crockett’s vivid portrayals of local people and landscapes. Her presentation, ‘Seeing Galloway’s Woods and Trees with S.R. Crockett’, explores how woodlands feature in his writing and what they reveal about our changing relationship with the land.

(The website is now www.srcrockett.scot The charity goes under the snappy title of The S.R.Crockett Cultural Legacy (SCIO) but it tends to be referred to as the S.R.Crockett Charity.)

This event's second speaker is Dr Patti Leino, local resident, artist and tutor, considering how the woodlands inspire her work and that of others today. By looking back to the 19th century and then today, we will be able to consider our changing landscape through the creative eye!

The event is delivered online through the Streamyard platform, with lots of opportunity for the audience to put questions to the speakers. Streamyard requires nothing to be downloaded onto your computer, we will send a joining link out to signed up attendees in the day before the event.

This event is part of the 'Knowledge Knovember' programme of events. Three online events, on consecutive Tuesday evenings in November, all possible thanks to support form a wide range of partners, including The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The event is delivered by Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands, a charity supporting trees, habitats and the people that depend upon them in the region. For more information, visit www.dgwoodlands.org.uk.
