Recording your local wildlife - a beginners guide

Thursday 15. January 2026 at 19:30 - 21:00 GMT

Online

We all know that our local wildlife is under increasing pressure from habitat loss, climate change and a host of other issues. Before we can take action we need to understand where different species can be found, and wildlife recording is a simple citizen science activity that anyone can contribute to.

This online presentation/workshop will cover how to gather and share records of the wildlife you see. It will demonstrate some practical examples using online websites and free smartphone apps that anyone can use. There will also be some tips on how to get help with identification. Staff from SWSEIC will be available to answer questions about any matters relating to local wildlife and wildlife recording.

This event is part of the Nature Connections events which SWSEIC has operated throughout the Carrick area of South Ayrshire in 2025-26. The workshop will have a focus on wildlife in the Carrick region, though the examples used are applicable to anyone in SW Scotland.
