DES CHOSES, Sophie Le Meillour
FLUX Laboratory presents DES CHOSES, a film projection conceived by visual artist Sophie Le Meillour. The projection features enigmatic, even unsettling archaeological objects whose singular nature often relegates them to the realm of anecdote or “curiosities.” These “special cases” reconnect us with the everyday lives of our predecessors, their intimacy and even their inner worlds dimensions generally considered difficult to grasp through the study of material remains alone. Their evocative power encourages archaeologists to approach them through still largely unexplored perspectives (emotional, sensory, poetic and others) which give them a distinctive narrative quality. This unusual material culture thus confronts archaeologists with the limits of their own scientific methods.
