CHARTODAIDALOS, Daniele Papuli And Marianna Kavallieratos

FLUX Laboratory invites Italian artist and sculptor Daniele Papuli for the presentation of his work CHARTODAIDALOS. Daniele Papuli has placed paper at the heart of his artistic practice since the 1990s. He cuts, folds, layers and sets it in motion to create what he calls “sculptographies”—works at the intersection of sculpture, installation and scenography. In his hands, paper becomes volume, landscape, light and sound. With CHARTODAIDALOS, a suspended structure unfolds through long, delicate sheets of white tissue paper, forming a luminous labyrinth that becomes the living centre of choreographer Marianna Kavallieratos’s movement and dance. Like a contemporary DAIDALOS composed of theatrical wings, the structure gradually reveals the choreography through sudden shadows, shifting forms and weightless gestures. The space itself becomes a living presence, engaging the body in an intense, bold and intimate dialogue. Illuminated from within, this suspended paper architecture transforms into a lantern, a visionary music box—a fragile organism in a state of perpetual metamorphosis, animated by light, movement and sound. The soundscape emerges from the live manipulation of paper: sheets, strips and small paper instruments produce a constellation of sounds that intertwine with a recording made in the studio in 2018 for the collaborative project ULE – Carte Visionarie. At the heart of this creation lies a reflection on the memory of paper—on the traces, visions and forms that appear as ink migrates, spreads and evolves across its surface. Paper becomes both material and memory: a space where gestures leave their imprint and images continually emerge and transform.
