Kogo Gallery is starting a new season of its art club with a practical lecture series From Zero to Art Collector, covering topics such as investing, selecting, preserving, insuring, and understanding the rights related to art. We invite professionals from different fields to explain the background, share how they work, and offer useful advice to help you feel more confident when collecting art. Bring your notebook and a pen — there will be plenty to take away!
In the October lecture, the collection managers of Estonia’s two largest art museums will visit Kogo Gallery to discuss how museums make their collecting decisions. In the previous lecture, we talked about what kind of art is worth investing in according to a gallerist, an art collector, and the head of LHV’s investor community. This time, we’ll explore how art museums make these choices. Do they only acquire works by artists who have participated in museum exhibitions? Do they only buy works by old masters? How do they select artworks? Does the medium matter? Which works are the most challenging to preserve?
On October 25, the discussion From Zero to Art Collector: Principles of Collecting Art in Museums will feature:
Brigita Reinert, Head of Contemporary Art Collection at the Art Museum of Estonia
Kadri Mägi, Keeper of Prints & Drawings Collection at the Tartu Art Museum
The discussion will be moderated by Šelda Puķīte, Curator and Head of International Projects at Kogo Gallery.
The talk will be held in English.
