St. Nicholas Church, Gent
Nordic folk harmonies
On the 22nd of March at 16h in Ghent's St. Nicholas Church, Trondhjems Kvinnelige Studentersangforening will perform a concert inspired by the intersection of Norwegian folk music and religious music, telling the story of how sacred texts have been interpreted and adapted to Norwegian musical culture and traditions.
Trondhjems Kvinnelige Studentersangforening (TKS) is one of the oldest women’s choirs in Norway. Founded in 1930, it is now approaching a century of musical traditions within the student community at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.
The choir is affiliated with Studentersamfundet i Trondhjem, the largest volunteer‑run student organization in Norway, and performs two to three concerts each year. Its repertoire spans Norwegian folk music, classical works, traditional student songs, and contemporary compositions in Norwegian as well as other languages.
TKS is conducted by Marius Berg, who studied at both the Norwegian Academy of Music and the University of Oslo.
