VISITOR Q Film Screening

Wednesday 26. November at 16:00 - 17:15

FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi

Takashi Miike | 2001 | Japan | 84 minutes

Presented in the original Japanese audio with English subtitles.

VISITOR Q is screening at FOMO Secret Cinema as part of our week long "Banned Film Festival"bpresenting films from across the globe that have been subject to censorship.

VISITOR Q was restricted or blocked across Asia. It never received a commercial theatrical release in several countries, and Japanese broadcasters refused to show it under strict content guidelines. The film’s mix of family dysfunction, violence, and shock humour placed it outside what many regulators were willing to classify.

The story follows a troubled family whose lives change after a silent stranger arrives at their home. His presence exposes buried tensions between a father chasing scandalous stories, a mother struggling with addiction, and children trapped in cycles of cruelty. Miike uses handheld camerawork and a direct, unpolished style to explore how chaos enters ordinary life and pulls hidden problems to the surface.

VISITOR Q aptures a bold moment in Miike’s experimental early 2000s period. The film examines repression, alienation, and the collapse of communication with unusual clarity. It remains one of the most daring works in Japanese independent cinema and a sharp example of how filmmakers use provocation to examine social pressure.
