AWESOME TAPES (From Africa)
In 2004, Brian Shimkovitz, a graduate in ethnomusicology, left Brooklyn to study hip-hop in Ghana for a year. Once there, the American accumulated discoveries, encounters and audio cassettes on the shelves.
Back home and obsessed with what he had been exposed to, he decided to promote it.
Thus was born the Awesome Tapes From Africa blog, which turned into an independent label during 2011.
He does not hesitate to mix all styles, from the most traditional to the most contemporary, from funk to dancehall, through Afrobeat.

SOUMA
Souma brings back his rare and mostly unheard of tropical and oriental sounds.
Souma Records is the new offspring to the eclectic label and DJ duo Radio Martiko. Part of Martiko's history continues with Souma and its founder Fred Kramer.

MONSTERA OCCULTA
Each song is like a return to the origins, to the music she heard when she was a kid.
Today, oscillating between old school nostalgia and disco fever, she shares her discoveries with both novice and initiated ears.

XOGN
Cultivated between Brussels and Dakar, my passion for music is orchestrated by record stores, radio shows and dance floors.
XOGN, in Wolof (Senegal), is the name given to the rice that has been roasting at the bottom of the pot...in which my spicy and tasty records have been simmering!
