Lost & Found #01: INTERSTATE 60 | Second Chances for Great Films at FOMO Cinema Tbilisi

INTERSTATE 60 launches a new monthly series at FOMO dedicated to criminally underseen films that deserved a much bigger audience. These aren’t cult films selected simply for being weird or notorious. They’re genuinely good films that slipped through the cracks because of bad marketing, poor timing, controversy, distribution problems or simple bad luck.

Following each film Mark will lead a 30 minute interactive film discussion / Q&A with the audience.

INTERSTATE 60

Written and directed by Bob Gale, co-writer of BACK TO THE FUTURE, INTERSTATE 60 follows Neal Oliver, a young artist being pushed toward a respectable future he doesn’t particularly want. After meeting a mysterious leprechaun played by Gary Oldman, Neal is sent on a journey along Interstate 60, a highway that doesn’t actually exist on any known map

The further he travels, the more unusual the road becomes. Each stop presents another moral problem involving truth, addiction, ambition, law, desire or regret. The structure feels somewhere between a road movie and a collection of modern American fables, with an absurdly strong supporting cast including Christopher Lloyd, Chris Cooper, Amy Smart, Kurt Russell and Michael J. Fox.

INTERSTATE 60 barely found an audience when it was released in 2002, despite that cast and Gale’s connection to one of the most successful film franchises ever made. Over time it developed a small but extremely loyal following through home video and word of mouth. That makes it an ideal film to open this series: very good, highly entertaining, packed with familiar faces, and somehow still unknown to a huge number of filmgoers.

ABOUT THE SERIES - LOST & FOUND

Once a month, FOMO Cinema will hand the programming over to filmmaker, critic and Tbilisi local Mark for a screening dedicated to a criminally underseen film that deserves another chance.

The idea is to go beyond the usual cult-film canon. We’ll be looking for films that are genuinely accomplished but never found the audience they should have, be it due to poor distribution, terrible marketing, controversy or bad timing.

Mark previously joined us to host an interactive screening of Tommy Wiseau’s THE ROOM, so that should give you some indication of his appetite for films that inspire conversation.

Each screening will feature one film personally selected by Mark, followed by an informal 30–45 minute discussion where we can talk about the film, how it was received, why it disappeared and whether history has treated it fairly.

FOOD AND DRINK POLICY: SHEREKILEBI Bar in FOMO Secret Cinema opens 1 hour before the first screening of the day and closes at 01:30, serving a wide selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic refreshments including coffee and tea, as well as fresh hot popcorn! Outside food is allowed in the bar but not in the cinema. No alcohol or drinks from outside are allowed. All guests are invited to arrive early and stay late!

REFUND & CREDIT POLICY: If FOMO cancels a screening, all ticket holders will receive a full refund. If your plans change and you can no longer attend, we’ll issue you a credit for the value of your ticket, which can be used for any FOMO film screening within the following 30 days.
