LITTLE WOMEN Film Screening (ENG subs)

Friday 26. December at 18:30 - 20:45

FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi

Directed by Greta Gerwig | USA | 2019 | 2h15m | Presented in the original English with English subtitles

Greta Gerwig’s LITTLE WOMEN is one of the best reimaginings of a literary classic every put on the big screen. Rather than retelling the story in a straight line, the film moves fluidly between past and present, allowing memory, regret, and ambition to sit side by side. This structure mirrors how the characters experience their own lives, shaped as much by what they remember as by what they become.

The film follows the four March sisters as they navigate love, work, independence, and financial reality. Jo is driven by creative ambition and resistance to convention. Meg desires stability and domesticity. Amy balances pragmatism with longing. Beth remains quietly observant, grounding the family emotionally. Gerwig gives each sister interiority, refusing to reduce them to archetypes.

Performances are natural and precise, with Florence Pugh’s Amy standing out in particular. The final act reframes the idea of narrative resolution, asking the question "Must fulfilment follow traditional rules?"

For this special Christmas screening, I've chosen LITTLE WOMEN not because it's nostalgic, but because it understands family as something constantly renegotiated. And that's something I suspect we can all relate to at this particular time of year!
