“KUZMA: TERRIBLY FUNNY”

🎬 AFTER A SOLD-OUT SCREENING IN TALLINN — “KUZMA: TERRIBLY FUNNY” IS COMING TO TARTU!

On September 12 at 15:00, we invite Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine to Tartu Elektriteater for a screening of the new documentary “Kuzma: Terribly Funny” — the story of Andriy Kuzmenko, frontman of the band Skryabin, a man loved by millions but truly known by only a few.

🔴 The screening is organized by the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Estonia as part of the Ukrainian Film Club in Estonia project.

On August 23, we screened “Kuzma: Terribly Funny” in Tallinn for the first time — and it was completely sold out. All tickets at Sõprus Cinema had been purchased in advance, and the auditorium was filled to the very last seat.

It was one of those rare screenings where people laughed, cried, sang familiar songs and, for two hours, felt as though they had met Kuzma again — alive, ironic, sharp, at times unbearably direct, yet incredibly authentic.

And now we are bringing the film to Tartu. 💙💛

➡️ “Kuzma: Terribly Funny” is a biographical documentary tracing Andriy Kuzmenko’s journey — from a boy from Novoyavorivsk and his first musical experiments to becoming one of Ukraine’s most recognizable and beloved artists.

The film was released nationwide in Ukraine on August 13 and achieved an impressive result within its first days: more than 53,000 viewers and over UAH 11 million at the box office, including special screenings.

🎬 The KNIFE! Films team worked through more than 400 hours of video and audio material, over 22,000 photographs, and spoke with more than 100 people to recreate different periods of Andriy’s life.

Most of these archives had never been made public before.

That is why this is not a conventional documentary in which other people simply tell the story of its protagonist.

Here, Kuzma essentially tells his own story.

We see him young and wild, in love with music, funny and serious, successful and uncertain, in everyday life, on stage, with friends and during moments of major change.

💙💛 And today, many of Kuzma’s words resonate with particular force.

After Russia’s aggression against Ukraine began in 2014, he openly condemned Russia, supported Ukrainian soldiers, spoke about the danger of indifference and stressed that when your country is at war, remaining neutral is impossible.

He spoke about the importance of preserving what is ours — the Ukrainian language, music, culture, our own voice and our right to determine our own future.

Perhaps that is why we listen to Kuzma a little differently today.

And that is exactly why, after the Tallinn screening, we want Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine in other Estonian cities to have the opportunity to see this film too.
