🇺🇦 On the Occasion of the 35th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence – A Special Film Screening in Tallinn!

We warmly invite Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine to a special screening of the new documentary "Kuzma: Terribly Funny” («Кузьма: Страшно веселий»), taking place on 23 August at 3:00 PM at Sõprus Cinema in Tallinn. The event is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

🔴 The screening is organized by the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Estonia as part of the Ukrainian Film Club in Estonia project.

➡️ "Kuzma:Terribly Funny” is a new biographical documentary about Andriy Kuzmenko (Kuzma), the legendary frontman of the Ukrainian band Skryabin. Loved by millions, he remained a deeply authentic person whose true story was known only to a few.

The film premieres in cinemas across Ukraine on 13 August, and just ten days later audiences in Tallinn will have the opportunity to see it on the big screen.

The documentary was created by KNIFE! Films, the team behind "Yaremchuk: The Incomparable World of Beauty" as well as the documentaries "Okean Elzy: Storm Observation" and "EPISODES: Ukraine at the World Cup".

This is the story of Kuzma’s journey—from a young boy growing up in Novoyavorivsk to becoming one of the most recognizable figures in Ukrainian culture. It is a story of freedom, self-irony, courage, compassion, and living life to the fullest.

🎬 The documentary is built almost entirely from unique archival materials, most of which have never been made public before. During production, the filmmakers reviewed more than 400 hours of video and audio recordings and over 22,000 photographs.

Through these archives, Kuzma himself becomes the narrator of his own story—honest, witty, outspoken, free-spirited, and genuine.

💙💛 It is especially symbolic for us to present this film on the eve of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

Kuzma spoke about freedom not only through his music. Following the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2014, he became one of the voices that openly condemned the invasion, warned against public indifference, and reminded people that when your country is at war, remaining neutral is not an option.

He supported Ukrainian service members and consistently emphasized the importance of protecting one's country, language, music, culture, identity, and the right to be yourself.

Today, as Ukraine continues to defend its independence in the face of Russia’s ongoing war, many of his words sound more relevant than ever.

That is why this documentary is much more than the story of one of Ukraine’s most beloved musicians. It is a reflection on freedom, Ukrainian identity, and the independence that Ukraine continues to defend every single day.

🇺🇦🇬🇧 The film will be screened in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
