Gidon Kremer 75 + Kremerata Baltica 25 = 100
The highly acclaimed chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica, consisting of the most prominent players from the Baltic states, has many reasons for celebrations this year – 2022 marks 25th anniversary of playing together and the 75th birthday of the world-famous violinist and artistic director of the ensemble Gidon Kremer. Past 25 years have been extremely active and fruitful for Kremerata Baltica: over 1000 concerts in more than 50 countries, own festival in Latvia, high quality recordings for leading companies such as ECM, Grammy and ECHO Klassik awards, cooperation with Arvo Pärt, Pēteris Vasks, Marta Argerich, Kent Nagano, Vladimir Ashkenazy and many other composers and musicians etc. The anniversary is celebrated by several events and concerts, one of them taking place in the concert hall of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with excellent acoustics. The concert program featuring works by Arvo Pärt, Raminta Šerkšnytė and Arturs Maskats pays homage to contemporary Baltic music, marking the importance of the cultural heritage of all three countries in the orchestra’s activities. The program, containing Leonid Desyatnikov’s captivating variations on Schubert’s romantic vocal cycle Winterreise, also notes the essential role Kremerata Baltica plays in performing and introducing works by contemporary composers around the world.
