Korean Painting Workshop at Edine London

Edine, London

Korean Café, Korean Painting, and a very special Sunday morning (Edine x Leasanbang)

This is a small-group workshop, so places are limited

Experience Korean painting on Hanji paper using authentic Korean painting materials, including vintage Bongchae pigments.

Your finished piece will be beautifully framed in a hoop for you to take home, except for the Christmas card.

About the workshop

* Sunday 25 October 2026, 10.30am - 12.30pm

Please note: British Summer Time ends. Your phone should update automatically, but do double-check any other clocks, so you'll get an extra hour in bed!

We'll begin with a short, friendly introduction to two masterpieces currently on display at the British Museum(KOREA): Irworobongdo (Sun, Moon and Five Peaks), the iconic screen that once stood behind the Joseon king's throne, and Inwang Jesaekdo (Clearing After Rain on Mount Inwang) by the celebrated painter Jeong Seon (Gyeomjae). It's the perfect excuse to pop over to the museum afterwards and see them in person.

Then it's your turn to pick up a brush. Choose your design from:

  • Irworobongdo-inspired landscape

  • A special Halloween painting inspired by Jeong Seon's Chochungdo

More hoop colours will be available.

* Sunday 01. November 2026, 10.30am - 12.30pm

We'll begin with a short, friendly introduction to two Korean paintings currently on display at the British Museum(KOREA): Chaekgado, the colourful "books and things" paintings that celebrated a love of learning in Joseon Korea, and Hojakdo, the much-loved tiger and magpie painting believed to bring good fortune and ward off bad luck. It's the perfect start to a Sunday, so why not stroll over to the museum afterwards and see them in person?

Then it's your turn to pick up a brush! You'll paint on hanji, traditional Korean paper, choosing one of the following designs:

• Part of Chaekgado

• Hojakdo, the tiger and magpie

• A Minhwa-style Christmas card and envelop with Hanji

Included

All art materials are provided, so there's no need to bring anything. You'll also enjoy one drink of your choice from Edine's menu. Every drink is lovely, but I highly recommend the Jeju matcha or one of Edine's seasonal specials, which you won't find anywhere else.

Good to know

This workshop is for adults (18+). All levels are welcome
