Jazz @ The Vic featuring Bryony Prior

Thursday 9. April at 19:30 - 22:00

The Victoria Institute, Arundel

Big House Trio with singer, Bryony Prior and special guest Paul Newton.

Bryony Kate Prior is a vocalist and French horn player whose work bridges classical orchestral performance and jazz vocals. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, training as a classical horn player with Richard Bissill and studying jazz singing with acclaimed vocalist Lee Gibson. As a singer she performs jazz and swing repertoire with big bands and small ensembles across the South of England, including appearances at Arundel Jailhouse Jazz Club.

Alongside her vocal career, Bryony has performed widely as an orchestral horn player with ensembles including Kent Sinfonia, Docklands Sinfonia and the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, and in projects alongside players from the London Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel. Highlights include performing at Buckingham Palace and recording at Angel Studios for Katie Melua under the baton of Mike Batt.

She has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Brandenburg Sinfonia at St Martin-in-the-Fields and performed Mozart’s Third Horn Concerto with Southwark Sinfonietta. As a young musician she performed in the orchestra for Glyndebourne’s community opera Knight Crew and was the youngest finalist in the West Sussex Young Musician of the Year.

Bryony was also featured as a vocalist in a BBC short film documenting the recording of a virtual choir of people with cystic fibrosis; the resulting album Choirs With Purpose reached the UK Top 40 and raised funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. She has received support from the Wolfson Foundation, Paxman Musical Instruments, the Westdene Trust and the Barbican Centre Music Shop Award.
