WORSKHOP IN INDIAN MUSIC. RAAGA (MELODY) AND TAALA (RHYTHM )

(for musicians and non-musicians)

  • A workshop designed for musicians as well as general beginners in music .

  • Understand the basics of Indian musical scales and rhythmic cycles.

  • Obtain fundamental awareness in music and sound from the Indian perspective

  • Use Indian music concepts to widen your musical scope within your own instrument / music and improve basic knowledge as a beginner

  • Learn about improvisation.

Indian music teaches us about music from the fundamentals of sound, giving us a natural understanding of musics core principles in a simple way.
We will spend the workshop learning how music works on the emotions and how Raagas ( Indian scales have strongly developed this )
We will use some practical exercises to ground our understanding in an immediate way as well as learning how improvisation works on a theory and practice.

We will learn about Indian rhythmic cycles in a fun and accessible way and how they work with improvisation and melody.

As well as sharing their long experience and teachings that are past down from their masters , Jason and Francisco will give us live demonstrations on the music they play in performance and break it down for our understanding. They will show us how this music is considered sacred and healing .

Jason Kalidas is an accomplished Bansuri player from UK/Ireland. He studied Indian classical for 25 years on Tabla and Bansuri in the sacred city Varanasi in India under master musicians.
He give INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC concerts throughout the world I and is an active teacher .

Francisco Cabral

Percussionist, he developed the art of percussion instruments of northern Indian classical music, the Tabla and the Pakhawaj. He accompanies numerous musicians in concerts of Indian classical music and dance and in various fusion projects. Francisco works with music to contribute to a growing appreciation of interculturality and is also dedicated to bridging science and art, as a musician and astrophysicist.
