UP FELTING LAB – Transforming Old Garments into Expressive, Textured Surfaces through Experimental Felting with TATi
Sunday 7. June at 11:00 - 14:00
MAISON SHIFT, Zürich
In this hands on workshop, participants explore how existing textiles can be transformed into expressive, richly textured surfaces using wool and yarn.
You can work directly on second hand garments or on a separate piece of fabric. The focus is on developing new material qualities through felting techniques.
After a short introduction, you will learn how layering fibres and working intuitively can create structure, relief, and depth. Felting is approached not only as a repair technique, but as a design tool to reshape and evolve garments. This allows for both subtle interventions and more radical transformations.
Through guided experiments, you develop your own textile piece while exploring the interaction of different fibres and the composition of surfaces. The process encourages a playful and open approach, leaving space for individual expression and unexpected results.
The workshop understands transformation and reuse as a creative practice. Existing garments are given a new life, while you gain a deeper understanding of textile materials and their construction.
No prior experience is required. Felting materials are provided, and you are welcome to bring your own garments or fabrics to incorporate into your work.
